Mehmet Akif Ersoy Chest, Heart and Vascular Surgery Training and Research Hospital is the first specialized cardiology hospital established on the European side of Istanbul in 2008. At the Istanbul SBU Mehmet Akif Ersoy Cardiovascular Surgery Training and Research Hospital Medical Biochemistry Laboratory, biochemical tests that guide the diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of diseases are performed. Biochemical analyses of blood, urine, and body fluids are carried out by our professional team.
The Biochemistry Laboratory provides services through several internal sections and has a wide variety of tests including biochemistry, hormones, coagulation, cardiac markers, and urine biochemistry tests. In the Biochemistry Section, blood biochemistry analyses are performed, including blood glucose and glucose tolerance tests, blood lipids, kidney function tests, liver function tests, enzymes, and electrolytes. In the Hormone Section, thyroid hormones, specific hormones, and vitamins are analyzed. In the Coagulation Section, comprehensive tests used to detect bleeding and clotting disorders are performed. In the Cardiac Markers Section, emergency parameters used in the diagnosis of heart attacks are analyzed. Urine biochemistry tests are performed using an autoanalyzer equipped with a fully automated microscopic imaging system.
While providing both emergency and routine laboratory services, the biochemistry laboratory operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, aiming to produce fast and reliable results. All tests are monitored daily through internal quality controls using CLSI criteria. In addition, external quality control is carried out by regularly analyzing samples received from international centers and evaluating the results worldwide. The laboratory is a member of international quality control organizations such as RIQAS and LABQUALITY and is also monitored by the External Quality Control System (DKD) of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Türkiye.
All processes are carried out in accordance with quality management systems including ISO 15189 and ISO 9001. The Biochemistry Laboratory collaborates with reference laboratories for specialized tests used in diagnosis, research, and patient monitoring, ensuring that the quality of services provided is maintained at the highest level.
