S.B.U. Istanbul Mehmet Akif Ersoy Chest, Heart and Vascular Surgery Training and Research Hospital

Radiology Department Introduction

There are 3 Doppler Ultrasound (US) devices in the Doppler ultrasound unit of our hospital’s radiology department.

With the Doppler US devices in our radiology department, the arteries and veins of the arms and legs, neck vessels, and abdominal vessels (aorta, kidney, liver, etc.) can be examined. Narrowing of the vessels, valve insufficiency, and intravascular clot formation can be diagnosed.

Ultrasound examinations can also be performed for all abdominal organs, the neck region (thyroid gland, salivary glands), the breast, and other superficial body structures.

The following examinations are performed in the Doppler Ultrasound Unit of the Radiology Department:

  • Lower extremity arterial Doppler US

  • Lower extremity venous Doppler US

  • Lower extremity perforator vein Doppler US

  • Upper extremity arterial Doppler US

  • Upper extremity venous Doppler US

  • Carotid artery Doppler US

  • Vertebral artery Doppler US

  • Abdominal aorta Doppler US

  • Renal artery Doppler US

  • Portal vein Doppler US

  • Inferior vena cava Doppler US

  • Iliac artery Doppler US

  • Iliac vein Doppler US

  • Abdominal US

  • Hepatobiliary US

  • Renal US

  • Urinary US

  • Pelvic US

  • Thyroid US

  • Neck US

  • Thorax US

  • Breast US

  • Superficial US

Computed Tomography (CT) Unit

Our hospital’s radiology department has a multislice CT scanner (640-slice) in the Computed Tomography (CT) unit.

With the latest technology 320-detector (640-slice) CT device, the heart vessels can be scanned in about one-third of a second. Narrowing in the heart vessels can be demonstrated in detail through virtual (non-invasive, bloodless) imaging.

With this CT device, virtual angiography of not only the heart vessels but also the brain, neck, chest, abdomen, and arm and leg vessels can be successfully performed within seconds.

In addition, all CT examinations of the brain, neck, chest, abdomen, arms, and legs other than angiography can also be performed.

The following examinations are performed in the CT Unit of the Radiology Department:

  • Coronary CT angiography

  • Coronary calcium scoring CT

  • Thoracic CT angiography

  • Pulmonary CT angiography

  • TAVI CT angiography

  • Abdominal CT angiography

  • Renal CT angiography

  • Lower extremity CT angiography

  • Upper extremity CT angiography

  • Carotid CT angiography

  • Cerebral CT angiography

  • CT venography

  • CT urography

  • Brain CT

  • Neck CT

  • Paranasal sinus CT

  • Temporal bone CT

  • Thorax CT

  • Abdomen CT

  • Extremity CT

  • Vertebra CT

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

Our hospital’s radiology department has a 1.5 Tesla Magnetic Resonance (MRI) imaging device.

With the MRI device in our radiology department, all MRI examinations of the heart, all vessels, brain, neck, chest, abdomen, arms, and legs can be performed.

The following examinations are performed in the MRI Imaging Unit of the Radiology Department:

  • Cardiac MRI

  • MR angiography
